PURPOSE:To prepare lower hydrocarbons rich in ethylene and propylene, in high selectivity, by contacting a lower alcohol or its ether with crystalline lamellar zirconium phosphate having a specific lamellar distance under mild reaction conditions. CONSTITUTION:A lower alcohol or its ether (especially methanol or dimethyl ether) is brought into contact with a crystalline lamellar zirconium phosphate having lamellar distance of 7-15Angstrom at 340-380 deg.C to obtain lower hydrocarbons rich in ethylene and propylene. The crystalline lamellar zirconium phosphate is preferably alpha-type or gamma-type one, and may contain alkali metal or ammonium ions. The catalyst is used usually in the form of a fixed bed, and the space velocity of the reaction material on the catalyst is preferably 1-100mol/hr per 1l of the catalyst. |
