PURPOSE:To reduce the possibility that a both-surface copying machine, etc., stops operating by setting the operation stop temperature of the 1st mode wherein recording to a recording material is performed once higher than the temperature of the 2nd mode wherein recording is performed more than twice. CONSTITUTION:A fixing roll 1, press-contacting roll 2, guide 3, separating pawls 4 and 5, main heater H1, auxiliary heater H2, and heater H3 in the pressing roll are provided; the surface temperature of the fixing roll is detected by a thermistor 12 and the heaters H1, H2, and H3 are turned on and off according to the detection result. Further, a means for stopping operation in case of a drop below fixable temperature is provided. Because the same recording material passes through the fixing device twice successively in the 2nd mode of both-side or multiple copying, so the necessary heat value of the 2nd mode is less than that of the 1st mode, so operation stop temperature is so controlled that T1>T2, where T2 is the operation stop temperature of the 2nd mode and T1 is that of the 1st mode. |
