PURPOSE:To achieve a type identification of weld defect utilizing correlativity existing between defect types and features of the echo height, a top view pattern and a sectional view pattern from an automatic ultrasonic flaw detector. CONSTITUTION:Receiving a control signal 11 of a data processor controlling circuit 5, a scanner 3 moves a skew probe 2 to scan a weld coupling 1 for the inspection of flaws. The skew probe 2 is excited with a voltage sent from an ultrasonic flaw detector 4 so that an ultrasonic beam will enter the weld coupling 1 to perform a skew detection of flaws over a welded part 19. An automatic ultrasonic inspector 4 which is designed to record the results of the flaw inspection over the welded parts in a flaw echo height, a top view and a sectional view selectively picks up a reflected signal from inside the welded part from among the reflected signals 7 utilizing a gate circuit or the like and transmits it to a data processor controlling circuit 5 as flaw signal 10. From the flaw detection record thus obtained, a classification of flaws is conducted by the height of echo and that of the top view and the sectional view is done by comparison to the reference top view pattern and reference sectional view pattern. From the results of the classifications, the type of the flaws detected from the welded part is determined. |
