PURPOSE:To wash a lower belt surely without clogging in a belt press type dehydrator by washing the lower belt stuck with sludge cake with the water ejecting from a downward nozzle group above the belt and an upward nozzle group below the belt. CONSTITUTION:Hydrous sludge is pressurized and dehydrated with upper and lower belts as filter cloths and is removed as dehydrated cake. In the stage of washing away the sludge cake 3' by washing the lower belt 7 stuck with the cake 3' on the bottom surface, a downward nozzle group 28 provided above the belt 7 advancing in the direction of an arrow 26 and an upward nozzle group 29 provided below the belt 7 are disposed in rear and front along the advancing direction of the belt 7. The stuck cake 3' is first stripped from the belt 7 by the water sprayed from the nozzle group 29, then the stripped sludge cake is washed away thoroughly from the belt 7 by the force developed when the water sprayed from the downward nozzle group passes through the belt.
