The use of heat exchangers to make the heat losses from such systems usable is known. According to the invention, the transformer (1 to 7) which emits heat losses in operation is intended itself to represent directly the hot side of a heat exchanger whose cooler side is filled with industrial water (8) which is heated by the heat losses to produce hot water. The device according to the invention can be used very advantageously even in so-called distribution transformers.
