In a drive device for motor-vehicle window lifters, consisting of a housing (1, 2), of a drive shaft (5) mounted therein and of a driving pinion (8) which engages with the window lifter and which, after a limited idle rotation, is connected non-positively to the drive shaft, there is a ratchet brake which causes no frictional forces during rotations of the actuating crank after the idle rotation has been executed. The ratchet brake consists essentially of a sleeve (14), which is mounted on the drive shaft so as to be axially displaceable and rotatable to a limited extent and is coupled to the driving pinion and which has rolling bodies (25) inserted in clamping recesses (24) in an outer circumferential surface (23) and cooperating with a conical housing wall (22). <IMAGE>
