NEW MATERIAL:The pyroglutamide derivative of formula I (A is cyclic amino group containing an N atom as a hetero atom in the ring the addition to the N atom shown in the figure or containing only one N atom as a hetero atom and is not unsubstituted pyrrolidino and unsubstituted piperidino) or its physiologically permissible salt. EXAMPLE:4-Benzyl-N-(2-pyrrolidone-5-carbonyl)piperidine. USE:An intellectotropic agent. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting the compound of formula II or formula III with various amines by conventional method. As an alternative method, the compound of formula Ia which is one of the compound of formula I is produced by alkylating the compound of formula IV produced by the above method with a compound of formula RX (R is substituent group of A; X is halogen).
