The electromechanical drive for doors or the like has a d.c. motor (2) with a high-ratio planetary gear unit (3) for driving an output shaft (7), on which is arranged a toggle lever linkage (16) for driving the door. In the closed position of the door, the toggle lever linkage (16) forms a small acute angle and, in the open position of the door, forms a large obtuse angle of almost 180 DEG . The toggle lever linkage (16) can be arranged on either end piece (15) of the output shaft (7). The housing of the drive is symmetrical with respect to a transverse centre plane which includes the output shaft (7).
