An illustration and a description is given of a method for the pressure-tight fixing of a tube (2) in a tube plate (1), one tube end (3) of the tube (2) to be fixed being inserted with clearance into a hole (4) in the tube plate (1), and a pressure build-up mandrel (5) being introduced into the tube end (3) of the tube (2), the effective outside diameter of which mandrel upon introduction is smaller than the inside diameter of the tube end (3), and, to fix the tube (2) in the tube plate (1), the effective outside diameter of the pressure build-up mandrel (5) being enlarged in an expansion zone (7) beyond the inside diameter of the tube (2). In order to be able to achieve the advantages of both the known methods, namely mechanical rolling in and hydraulic expansion, a pressure fluid is according to the invention fed from the inside to the outer wall of the pressure build-up mandrel (5) in the expansion zone (7) via at least one pressure-medium feed conduit (8) extending in the pressure build-up mandrel (5) and in this way the outer wall of the pressure build-up mandrel (5) is expanded in the expansion zone (7). <IMAGE>
