In the case of a brake valve, especially a foot brake valve (1) for vehicles, such as motor vehicles, a running plate (3) is swivel-supported on a mounting plate (5), fastening plate or the like and its angular position can be fixed in the starting position in relation to a stop (19); the running plate, the mounting plate (5) carrying the running plate (3) and a push-rod (9) actuatable by the running plate when the latter is swivelled can be fixed as a common assembly unit in relation to a valve mechanism carried by the vehicle in such a way that the relative postion of the push-rod can be fixed outside the vehicle, that is when putting together the assembly unit. The push-rod (9) is designed in two parts and preferably comprises an upper part (23) and a lower part (25) carried in the upper part (23), a spring (27) extending the push-rod being inserted between upper part and lower part in such a way that, when the assembly unit is installed, installation tolerances can be absorbed by changes in the length of the push-rod (9).
