<p>Particulate catalyst deactivated with nitrogenous coke is regenerated by: (a) burning substantially all coke off a first portion of catalyst with a regeneration gas comprising O2 in a first zone, and burning substantially all CO formed in said first zone, sufficient O2 oxygen being introduced into said first zone to provide at least 1% residual O2 in said regeneration gas after burning said coke and CO, NOx being formed in said first zone; (b) passing regeneration gas from said first zone into a second zone, forming CO and CO2 and generating a substantially O2-free atmosphere therein by burning coke off a second portion of deactivated catalyst and burning CO with substantially all said residual O2, and decreasing the amount of NOx in said regeneration gas by reacting at least a portion thereof in said O2-free atmosphere to form N2; and (c) passing regeneration gas from said second zone into a third zone, and burning substantially all the CO therein with additional O2 in contact with substantially coke-free catalyst in said third zone.</p> |
