PURPOSE:To provide a shaft seal which can seal a poor-lubricating fluid or gas with a little liquid by supplying liquid to a burried member formed of liquid- containing material buried in a seal ring made of impermeable material. CONSTITUTION:A seal ring 6 is manufactured with impermeable material. A buried member 15 is soaked with liquid supplied to a hole of the seal ring 6, and the buried member 15 forces this liquid to ooze out in a seal end surface S, so as to form a lubricating liquid film. Therefore, even if seal fluid L is bad in lubrication or it is gas, a stable shaft sealing can be maintained during a long period of time. As the supplied liquid permeates through the buried member 15 to be supplied to the interior of the seal end surface, the consumption of liquid can be reduced. |
