PURPOSE:To reduce the positioning time of a magnetic head by driving an arm fitted with a magnetic head by a gear connected to a capstan and surrounding a gear connection part by an enclosed package sealed with a viscous liquid. CONSTITUTION:When a magnetic disk 1 is driven by a spindle motor 2, a capstan 10 is driven clockwise by a stepping motor 7, the arm 4 is driven around an arm shaft 12 via a gear 11 counter clockwise, resulting that the magnetic head 3 is moved from the inner circumference to the outer circumference. In driving the motor 7 counter clockwise, the magnetic head 3 is moved from the outer circumference to the inner circumference. In positioning the head 3 to a prescribed position on the disk 1, the vibration duration time at the positioning is reduced by the viscous friction effect by the viscous liquid 14 sealed in the enclosed package 13, the gear 11 and the capstan 10 and the positioning time is reduced.
