PURPOSE:To obtain the magnetic recording medium having excellent corrosion protection and abrasion resistance by supplying the magnetic-layer forming section of a high molecular substrate with a mixed gas of ozone and oxygen when a magnetic material is evaporated onto the surface of the high molecular substrate. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic material 3, a material vessel 4 and an evaporating source consisting of electron beams are arranged into a vacuum tank 6 while being opposed to an evaporating cylinder, and evaporated atom groups are forwarded continuously in the direction of the cylinder 11. On the other hand, the high molecular substrate 1 as a body to which the material is evaporated is forwarded from a winding-starting shaft 7, moved along the cylinder 11 and wound by a winding shaft 10. Consequently, a magnetic layer is formed continuously when the substrate 1 passes on the cylinder 11. The mixed gas 12' of ozone and oxygen is supplied to the magnetic-layer forming section of the substrate 1 from a gas nozzle 12 at that time. As a result, higher oxide layers are formed to the surface of the magnetic layer and grain boundaries. Accordingly, the magnetic substance layer consists of a dense thin-film with no pin hole, and the higher oxide layers are excellent in corrosion protection and abrasion resistance. |
