PURPOSE:To prevent any concentration of stress and breakage of a sealing gasket during sealing of a battery, and increase the liquid-leakage resistant performance of the battery by using a sealing plate having an expanded opening the periphery of which is provided with a rising part. CONSTITUTION:The shape of the peripheral rising part of a sealing plate largely influences the sealing of a battery in terms of its fastening. When a sealing plate with an expanded opening, which is represented by the symbol 7b' in the figure, is used, a sealing asket 6 can be widely fastened homogeneously by pressing it between the inner surface of the curved part of the upper end 1a' of a battery case and the outer surface of the rising part 7b' after the sealing of the battery. Thus, since the rising part 7b' and the inwardly curled part of the case 1 are made almost in surface contact with each other by expanding the opening of the rising part 7b' so as to make it almost correspond to the R-shape of the inwardly curled part of the case 1, the deformational flow of the sealing gasket 6 is not deteriorated, an any unnatural stress condition is not caused. Consequently, the rising part of the gasket 6 can be fastened at a relatively homogeneous stress condition. |
