PURPOSE:To prevent beforehand the inconvenience of tape cut while a CPU writes data, by obtaining the residual amount of tape from the rotating speed of reels and inhibiting writing of new digital data when the amount is reduced to a prescribed value or below. CONSTITUTION:A tape counter 22 counts the number of hole pulses HPR or HPL and detects how many turns a reel 19R or 19L rotates simply, and a residual amount counter 23 obtains the tape residual amount from the period of the said pulse. An external CPU (central processing unit) discriminates whether or not a signal(Rec) informing the digital data writing is incoming prior to the digital data writing and discriminates whether or not recording is possible when incoming. When the stored value is smaller than a constant, an Rec enable flag is set to inform write enable to the CPU, and when the storage value is larger than the constant, a cassette ejection flag is set and the cassette error is displayed. This error display is not performed even if the tape residual amount is a prescribed value or below on the way of writing, and writing is continued. |
