摘要 PURPOSE:To discriminate a desired target with high probability, by setting previously the threshold value based on the maximum level of a self-correlation signal, comparing the set threshold level with the mutual correlation signal between the picture signal to be correlated and the reference picture signal to obtain a correlation signal and detecting the maximum level of the correlation signal. CONSTITUTION:When the incident light volume to an image pickup device 1 has a change, a picture signal to be correlated is obtained by compensating the DC component corresponding to the change of said incident light volume. Both the reference picture signal and the picture signal to be correlated are fed to an optical or digital correlator 4 to give an operation to the correlative coefficient between both signals. In this case, a switch 12 is used to give an operation to the self-correlation function as a picture signal to be correlated. Then the maximum value of the self-correlation function is detected 13 and then stored in a buffer memory 10C. Then an operation is carried out to the mutual correlation function between the picture signal to be correlated which is fed newly and the reference picture signal, and this correlation signal is compared 5 with the threshold level. Then if the correlation signal level is higher than the threshold level, an n-power arithmetic circuit 15 of the corresponding region is used to give n-power to the correlation signal. Then the coordinates that gives the maximum value is detected 6, and a desired position is displayed at a CRT7.
