PURPOSE:To obtain EC films which have both of good adhesion to display electrodes and cationic conductivity by vapor depositing an electrochromic material on a substrate formed with a transparent electrode at specific rates of vapor deposition. CONSTITUTION:An upper substrate 1 is a transparent glass substrate provided with a transparent electrode 2 of tin oxide on the inside surface. Tungsten oxide is vapor-deposited on the electrode 2 at 150 deg.C substrate temp. and >=10Angstrom /sec and <=30Angstrom /sec rate of vapor deposition in 2X10<-6>Torr vacuum, whereby EC films 3 of about 0.5mum film thickness are formed. Glass of a recessed shape is used for a lower substrate 4 which is formed into one body with a spacer. The glass of the recessed shape and the upper substrate are combined to provide a cell space of about 0.5mm. spacing, and a white background plate 6 is put therein. A 1M soln. 5 of lithium perchlorate in propylene carbonate is packed in the cell. |
