PURPOSE:To easily realize circularly polarized light retardance, by using a constant polarized wave type optical fiber having a Fast axis and a Slow axis clossing at right angles with each other, and making perfect polarized light of an angle of 45 degrees incident to the Fast axis and the Slow axis. CONSTITUTION:To a constant polarized wave type optical fiber consisting of a circular core 1, an eliptical jacket 2 and a support 3, perfect linear polarized light L is made incident at angle azimuth of 45 degrees to a Fast axis F and a Slow axis S. In the constant polarized wave type optical fiber, it is decomposed like a vector to an HE11S mode and an HE11F mode, and is propagaged by each phase constant BS, BF. When the fiber length is denoted as (l), a phase difference (retardance) DELTA between both modes after passing through the fiber is given by DELTA=(BS-BF)l. In this way, since the constant polarized wave type optical fiber is used and it has flexibility, light can be led to an optional place, therefore, it is convenient. |
