PURPOSE:T enable detecting of even a defect of a neck or a bottom of a bottle, by a method wherein a picture of a bottle conveyed over the rotation is obtained by a photographing device, and picture signals at two points which are symmetrical to a center axial line on the picture are compared with each other to detect a defect. CONSTITUTION:A bottle 1 conveyed over the rotation is irradiated with light, and a photographing device 4 consisting of a lens system 4a and a photoelectric converting part 4b comprising a CCD two-dimentional image sensor is positioned obliquely thereabove to generate in order and repeatedly a signal corresponding to a plurality of picture elements, aligned in the matrix manner, of the picture of the bottle 1. After an output signal is quantitized, it is introduced to a circuit including an inspection field deciding circuit 30, a reference value signal generating circuit 40, and a discriminating circuit 50, and a defect is detected by comparing in order picture signals at two point being symmetrical to the center axis of the picture of the bottle 1. This permits the reliable detection of a defect at the neck or the bottom of the bottle in addition to that at the drum part of the bottle 1. |
