PURPOSE:To recover acetaldehyde efficiently, by washing a waste gas formed in the distillation for purification of crude hydrous acetaldehyde prepared through the oxidation of ethylene with water, and separating methyl and ethyl chlorides contained in the gas. CONSTITUTION:Ethylene is reacted with oxygen in the presence of palladium and a redox catalyst to prepare crude hydrous acetaldehyde which is distilled for purification. The resultant waste gas containing methyl and ethyle chlorodes and acetaldehyde is washed with water in a washing tower (B), and a gas containing methyl and ethyl chlorides is obtained as a top exhaust gas which is incinerated. Aqueous acetaldehyde as a bottom product is fed into a rough distillation tower (A) to recover the acetaldehyde. |
