PURPOSE:To enable to print with various character sizes through a simple selection control, by a method wherein one-side ends of heating elements placed at different arrangement pitches are connected in common for each row and are connected respectively to row-selecting terminals, while the other-side ends are so connected that corresponding elements belonging to different rows are connected in common with each other. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of heating element rows 121-12n, 131-13n, 141-14n having different arrangement pitches P1, P2, P3 corresponding respectively to the sizes of characters to be printed are provided in parallel with each other on a substrate 11. The one-side ends of the elements are connected in common for each of the rows and are connected respectively to the row-selecting terminals 15, 16, 17, while the other-side ends are so connected that the corresponding elements belonging to different rows are connected in common with each other and are connected respectively to driving signal input terminals 181-18n. When printing, driving signals are supplied to the input teminals 181-18n, and the heating element row corresponding to either one of the row-selecting terminals 15, 16, 17 is selected. For example, characters of size (a) are printed when the heating elements 121-12n are used, and characters of size (b) are printed when the heating elements 131-13n are used. Accordingly, it is enabled to print with different sizes by an extremely simple selection control without changing the pattern in which the driving signals are supplied. |
