Furnace for preheating elongate materials, particularly rods, bars or the like of a light alloy, having a tunnel-shaped hearth (15) comprised of concave bed plates (14) wherein the material (1) to be preheated is introduced. At least on their mean portion, the concave bed plates are covered with a heat insulation which comprises removable insulating portions (54, 56). The insulating portions (54, 56) are bent upwardly above the concave bed plates (14) and form an exhaust channel (32) wherein the tunnel-shaped hearth is integrated. A thermal insulation of the preheating furnace easy to assemble and disassemble is obtained, thereby substantially improving the utilization of the heating energy.
