A FILTER FOR EXTENDING THE DEFINITION OF A TELEVISION SIGNAL IN COMPONENT FORM

A filter for improving the definition of television video signals comprises a structure which has alternate zero co-efficients, the non-zero co-efficients being in the form k/2n where k and n are integers. The filter may be one dimensional so as to enhance only the horizontal resolution or may be three dimensional covering five lines and three fields of a television picture. The advantage of this filter structure is that it is linear and may be used for transmission links or satellite broadcasting as long as the television signal is in component form.
