In a stereoscopic television system, the system generates a plurality of frames of stereoscopic images. When viewed on an unmodified conventional television receiver, each frame of stereoscopic image is formed of a first subfield (3) within the upper half of the display and a second subfield (4) within the lower half of the display with the subfields (3 and 4) being separated by a blanking area (1) and/or a vertical sync pulse. When the receiver is modified by doubling the vertical sync frequency, each subfield (3 or 4) would be displayed over the entire display. For stereoscopic viewing, the subfields are preferably of the left image and the right image.
|
