The invention relates to a method and a device for the optimum operation of a fossil heat generator for, preferably, living rooms. To achieve energy saving in fossil heat generators, it is proposed according to the invention to control the air supply region or outgoing-air region of the heat generators according to desire corresponding to the predetermined temperature and the degree of efficiency, by means of an electronically controlled control member which functions depending upon a heat sensor - the latter being linked to an adjustable preselectable room temperature.
