PURPOSE:To subject molten metal to preliminary refining such as desiliconization, and dephosphorization without eroding a lance by blowing refining agents through the lance provided above the molten iron flowing in a molten iron spout. CONSTITUTION:In the stage of subjecting molten iron to preliminary refining such as desiliconization and dephosphorization, desiliconizing agents and dephosphorizing agents in a tank 5 are blown through a lance 4 disposed above the molten metal flow 2 into the molten iron flowing in a tapping spout 1 by means of gaseous substances for conveying such as N2, Ar, CO2, air, steam or O2. Since the lance 4 is not immersed into the flow 2, there is no erosion of the lance by the molten iron, and since there is a large clearance between the preceding end of the lance 4 and the bottom part of the spout 1, the erosion in the bottom part of the spout 1 owing to the preliminary refining agents does not arise and the lance is usable with a long serivce life. |
