A recording medium suitable for writing and reading out information by irradiating a photobeam on a recording layer at a relatively low power comprises a light transmissible substrate (11), a light transmissible subbing layer (12), and the recording layer. The recording layer is composed of:
<UnorderedLists id="ula01" listStyle="none"><ListItem>(i) a sublimable organic substance layer (13) laminated on the subbing layer and (ii) a metal layer (14) laminated on the organic layer; or</ListItem><ListItem>(i) a first metal layer laminated on the subbing layer, (ii) a sublimable organic substance layer laminated on the first metal layer, and (iii) a second metal layer laminated on the sublimable organic substance layer.</ListItem></UnorderedLists>

This recording medium has a high photosensitivity and can record information at a high quality (i.e., a high signal-to-noise ratio).
