A system of transmission of two dimensional information at optical frequencies, applicable to television, video telephone lines etc. The system uses a coherent light flux (2) through a connecting line (4). The two dimensional signal is formed by two dimensional space modulation (9) of a coherent light flux, simultaneously sending a two dimensional reference signal along the line. The phase displacement of the reference signal does not exceed the time instability interval of the line. The output reference signal and the information signal are subject to combined treatment (13). The treatment will insure compensation for identical distortion suffered by the two signals along the line.
