PURPOSE:To obtain a high-density image, by installing an electrostatic lens between an ion generating source and a modulator, converging ion current to modulation part, and allowing it to reach the surface of a dielectric drum effectively. CONSTITUTION:Ion current generated from a corona discharge wire 32 is modulated with a modulation electrodes 34 in accordance with an image signal obtd. by reading an original with a solid-state image scanner to form the electrostatic latent image of an original on a dielectric drum surface 6. This image is developed with toner and transferred onto a sheet of paper to form an original copy. An electrostatic lens is formed with control electrodes 30a-30e to which voltages 54-59 are applied to converge the ion current and pass all the ions through the electrodes 34. Lateral deviation of the converging point is corrected by changing voltages 61, 62 applied to second electrodes 30f and 30g. The electrostatic lens may be constituted with mesh electrodes. |
