PURPOSE:To manufacture a liq. crystal having a fine pattern with high productivity by forming transparent metallic oxide films using printing paste convertible into Al2O3 by calcination after screen printing. CONSTITUTION:Transparent In2O3 electrodes are formed on 2 insulating substrates made of transparent glass. Printing paste is prepared by mixing 5wt% triacetylacetonatoaluminum with 60wt% 2-ethylhexanol, 25wt% benzyl alcohol and 10wt% ethylcellulose. Prescribed patterns are printed on the substrates using the paste through a 250-mesh screen, dried by preheating at 150 deg.C for 15min, and calcined at 700 deg.C for 30min to form Al2O3 films. The films are coated with orienting layers of a horizontally orienting agent, the upper and under substrates are rubbed so that the orienting directions meet at right angles, and the substrates are adhered to each other with an epoxy adhesive with 10mum gap in-between. A nematic liq. crystal with positive dielectric anisotropy is sealed in the resulting cell, and polarizing plates each having the polarizing axis in the rubbing direction of the substrate are stuck to the top and bottom of the cell. |
