894,762. Storing liquefied gases. CONCH INTERNATIONAL METHANE Ltd. Dec. 20, 1960 [April 20, 1960], No. 43696/60. Class 8(2). [Also in Group XXIX] Liquefied gas e.g., methane is stored in a basin 2 scooped out of the earth's surface and covered by a thermally insulated roof 4, 5 provided with a vent duct 10 and filling and emptying ducts 13, 14, 15; the earth formation 3 surrounding the basin being impregnated with a liquid e.g., water or crude oil which is frozen at the temperature of the stored liquid and thus prevents leakage of the same. The roof insulation 5 may comprise perlite or fibre glass and the basin may be lined with fibre glass 12 covered by a thin sheet of paper or aluminium. In the case of a dry earth formation e.g., sand, the site is impregnated with water which is frozen by inserting brine pipes therein after which the basin is constructed. |
