<p>The main advantage of the plastics cards is the prevention of the fraudulent practice of re-issuing old or substitute tickets and pocketing the fee. The cards have a magnetic strip on them, similar to those used in bank cash dispensers. When the client leaves a garment, the card is removed from the fixed hanger on which the garment is placed, and inserted into a machine which registers the time of deposit and place number in a central memory. The card, which has no visible numbers on it, is durable, but can easily fit into a pocket or handbag. When the client returns, the card is inserted in a reader and the hanger number is displayed on an illuminated readout. The garment is then removed from the hanger and the card replaced.</p> |
