903,687. Making cigarette mouthpieces. KORBER, K. Oct. 14, 1959 [Oct. 14, 1958], No. 34798/59. Class 130. Multiple-length rods 2, Fig. 10, of one kind of filter, e.g. synthetic fibres or paper, are cut on a grooved drum 3 into double-length filter plugs 19, Fig. 11, which are spaced apart by guides 5, 23 and air jets 22 and are inserted between filter plugs 15, Fig. 13, of different type, e.g. containing carbon, on transfer to a grooved drum 17, the plugs being left suitably spaced apart if hollow-ended mouthpieces are eventually required but, as shown, being slid together by guides 30 before transfer to a drum 18 where they are wrapped in a connecting sheet. The plugs 15 are produced from multiple-length rods 7, Fig. 10, cut on a grooved drum 8 into triple-length rod elements 12, Fig. 12, which are spaced apart by guides 11, 11a and air jets 24 and cut into single-length and doublelength plugs 15 which are finally spaced by guides 14, 29 and air jets 28 before transfer to the drum 17. Instead of being slid together, the plugs on the drum 17 may be closed up by movement together of their support means. Specifications 763,912 and 783,236 are referred to. |
