PURPOSE:To obviate cooling of high-temp. band steel as far as possible and to extend the life of rolls by cooling the outside circumferential surfaces of the rolls with a fluid mixtur of gas and liquid and cooling the inside thereof with cooling liquid. CONSTITUTION:In the case of cooling rolling rolls, conveying rolls or rolls for coilers in iron making and hot rolling installations during operation, the outside circumferential surfaces 7 of the rolls are cooled with a mixture 6 of gas and liquid such as steam or hydrous air and the internal parts of the rolls are cooled with cooling liquid. Thus, the sharp peak values of temp. on the surfaces 7 are reduced down to a permissible temp. range and the temp. gradients in the front layer parts of the surfaces 7 are decreased, whereby the damage of the surfaces 7 by heat is decreased. |
