Wick for a heat exchanger tube and a method for producing the wick. The wick is formed by suspending particles such as, e.g., titanium microspheres in a binder solution, applying the suspension to an inner wall of a heat exchanger tube in order to form a layer, heating the coated wall in order to evaporate the binder, and heating the coated wall to a raised temperature in order to diffuse and bind the particles to one another and to the wall. This results in the production of wicks having a tailormade pore size, including wicks which are connected to walls having a complex surface geometry. The resultant wicks provide effective return of condensed flowing medium to the evaporator of a heat exchanger tube and intensify the transport of heat to and from the heat exchanger tube.
