Novel 2-aminotetralins of the type <IMAGE> in which R1 to R5 have the meanings in accordance with the claim, are obtained by ether cleavage from compounds of the type <IMAGE> in which R11 has the same meaning as R1 and, additionally, can also denote (C1-4)alkoxy or benzyloxy, and R denotes (C1-4)alkyl or benzyl. The compounds, and their acid addition salts, are suitable for treating heart failure, myocardial infarction, elevated blood pressure and Parkinson's disease.
