Tetracyclic compounds of the formula I <IMAGE> in which R1, R2, R3 and R4 in each case denote a hydrogen or halogen atom, a hydroxyl, C1-C6-alkyl, C1-C6-alkoxy, C1-C6-alkylthio or trifluoromethyl group, R5 denotes a hydrogen atom or a C1-C6-alkyl group, and X denotes a methylene group or an oxygen atom, as well as their pharmacologically tolerated salts and quaternary ammonium salts, exhibit CNS-inhibiting properties.
