Purified C2H4 is prepd. by cooling a 2C hydrocarbon-enriched hydrocarbon condensate, to condense at least a pr. thereof. The hydrocarbons are charged to a phase-separator (5) and the sepd. phases are introduced into a C2H4-recovery unit. Novelty consists in introducing these sepd. phases into a 1st. so-called low-pressure fractionating column (1). A 2nd. so-called high-pressure fractionating column (2) is fed with at least a pt. (L) of the liq. intermediate fraction lying between the head- and the bottom fraction of the 1st. fractionating column (1). The head fraction of the 2nd. fractionating column (2) is condensed, at least partly, by heat-exchange with at least a pt. of the flowing reflux medium of the 1st. column, circulating in the boiling vessel assigned to the 1st. column. An appts. is claimed contg. at least one separator joined to a C2H4-fractionating unit. Highly pure C2H4 can be prepd. with min. energy consumption.
