The invention relates to novel 7 alpha -halogen-substituted steroids of the pregnane series and their preparation, and to pharmaceutical products which contain the novel steroids. The novel steroids are 7 alpha -halo-3,20-dioxo-4-pregnenes and -1,4-pregnadienes which can be substituted in the 2-, 9 alpha -, 11-, 14 alpha -, 16-, 17 alpha - and 21-positions, preferably by a 11 beta -hydroxyl group, a 17 alpha -hydroxyl or -acyloxy group, a 21-acyloxy group and a 16-methylene or -methyl group. The novel 7 alpha -halosteroids have useful pharmacological properties, in particular local antiinflammatory action.
