PURPOSE:To provide a desulfurizing agent for molten iron which provides a high rate of desulfurization without using any mechanical stirring means by adding specific contents of CaCO3 and CaF2 to CaO and controlling grain size distributions adequately. CONSTITUTION:A desulfurizing agent which consists essentially of CaO and is added with 7-15wt% CaCO3 and 5-10% CaF2. The grain sizes of the desulfurizing agent are controlled to 40% 60-200 meshes and 60%<200 meshes. When such desulfurizing agent is added to molten iron, the molten iron is stirred by the gaseous CO2 generated by the same and the area of the reaction interface between the molten iron and the desulfurzing agent is increased. As a result, the high rate of desulfurization similar to the rate of desulfurization when the molten iron is stirred by mechanical means is obtained. |
