The manufacturing of electrically heatable mirrors for motor vehicles is made substantially simpler by producing a heating element which contains a heater conductor in the form of a meander-shaped seam which is sewn onto an adhesive film arrangement before its cover paper or cover film is pulled off from the adhesive coatings. Before being joined to the mirror glass, a cover paper or a cover foil is drawn off from an adhesive coating of the heating element, in which case the cover paper or the cover foil tears around the seam sections and can be easily disconnected from the adhesive coating.
