In a vehicle roof with a roof opening which can be closed by means of a cover, in which roof the cover can be raised about a front swivel axis out of its position (closed position) in which it is flush with the plane of the roof, into a raised extension position, by means of a drive mechanism which comprises a down-step gear, a threaded cable and lifting devices as well as a cable guide which consists of an upper part and lower part and is attached to a case, and in which the cover can be completely removed after its front-end coupling is released, possible incorrect uses, in particular when the removed cover is inserted by unfamiliar persons, are prevented in that swivel bearing pins which are attached to the cover via supporting parts interact inside the cable guide with locking slides arranged on the threaded cables, and spring-loaded securing hooks which swivel about axes parallel to the swivel axis of the cover and each engage behind one recess in the case are provided, together with adjustment noses, on the locking slides.
