AMMONIUM SALTS OF SUBSTITUTED 3,4-DIHYDRO-2H-1,2- BENZOTHIAZINE-1,1-DIOXIDES

Benzothiazine salts of formula (I) are new. R is opt. substd. heteroaryl. R1 is H or opt. substd. aliphatic hydrocarbyl. AmH+ is the cation derived from a dialkyl-, di(hydroxyalkyl)- or tri(hydroxyalkyl)-amine, the alkyls being up to 7C. Ring A is opt. substd. (I) are made by reacting the corresp. 4-hydroxy cpd. (free acid) with Am or its salt. (I) are useful as antiinflammatory and analgesic agents. Compared with the known free acids and inorganic salts, they show quicker and more complete resorption so are effective at lower doses, e.g. 75-150 mg. for a 70 kg subject. Also (I) are not hydroscopic. (Provisional Basic previously advised in Week K05).
