The invention relates to a process and a device for mounting pressure plates in material-testing machines, according to which the resistance with which the pressure plate opposes the adjustment can be preselected or set by means of the variable prestressing force of the supporting bush and/or the ratio of the prestressing force acting on the supporting bush and of the clamping force acting on the carrier bush; according to a preferred embodiment, the clamping forces for the carrier bush are exerted hydraulically.
