PURPOSE:To obtain a plastic optical fiber showing satisfactory light transmitting characteristics even at high temp. and having superior mechanical strength when a plastic optical fiber having a core-sheath structure and a prescribed composition is produced, by cleaning a polymer as the sheath component with an org. solvent which does not dissolve the polymer. CONSTITUTION:When an optical fiber having a core-sheath structure and consisting of a methyl methacrylate-base polymer as the core component and a polymer contg. at least 20wt% fluorine as the sheath component is produced, the polymer as the sheath component is cleaned with an org. solvent which does not dissolve the polymer. The org. solvent used may be methanol, ethanol or n-propanol. The polymer contg. fluorine is a polymer having polymerizable structural units of fluoroalkyl alpha-fluoroacrylate, alkyl alpha-fluoroacrylate or fluoroalkyl methacrylate. |
