PURPOSE:To improve the coloring and decoloring life and the unsharp outlines of a display pattern by combining a transparent electrode layer on a transparent insulating substrate with a display electrode, an electrolytic soln. and a counter electrode and by forming an insulating layer on the display electrode and the transparent electrode layer. CONSTITUTION:In an electrochromic display body obtd. by combining a transparent electrode layer on a transparent insulating substrate 1 with a display electrode made of a display material layer 3 enabling electrochemical coloring and decoloring, an electrolytic soln. 8 and a counter electrode 6, an insulating layer 4 is formed on the layer 3 as the display electrode and the part of the layer 2 which is in direct contact with the soln. 8. The soln. 8 is in contact with the layer 3 from the microscopic viewpoint. The degree of contact depends largely on the thickness of the formed layer 4. The thickness of the layer 4 is prescribed to 50-500Angstrom from the life of the electrochromic display body in a corrosive state produced by driving the transparent electrode and the responding speed regulated by the diffusion speed of ions in the soln. 8 into the layer 3 through the formed layer 4. |
