Process and plant for clarifying waste water (effluent) containing oil and/or other impurities, in which the waste water is simultaneously subjected, in a vessel having an upper tangential inlet and funnel-shaped bottom, to an electroflotation, in which the floating light phase is continuously conducted away in the upper part of the vessel, and to a settling separation, in which the heavy phase is passed through the funnel-shaped bottom into a sludge compressor, and the water clarified in this way is taken off from the region of the funnel-shaped bottom via a rising pipe and is given a secondary purification in a filter.
