PURPOSE:To enable reading of a large number of pages of an original or a part of an original, by reading an original in contact with the first or second original contact means with an image reading means built in a frame. CONSTITUTION:The first and second original contact means 13, 13' such as glass plates, are provided in parallel to the upper and lower faces of a frame 12. A movable unit consisting of a mobile mirror 15, a lens 16, and a solid sensor 17 is moved in the directions of A and B with a drive wire 19 to execute auxiliary scanning of an original. An original 20 of a thick book is placed with the face to be copied upward, the means 13' is overlaid, an upward original mode is indicated with a selective switch, an image is formed on a solid sensor 17, the page is repeatedly turned over, with the book left at the initial position, thus permitting a large number of pages to be easily read. An original 24 large in area is placed, with the original downward, on the means 13, permitting only a part of the original 24 to be also read. |
