摘要 In such a cooling process, especially for continuously cast billets and blooms of steel, a controlled removal of heat takes place by spraying on one or more media. In continuous casting, one aim is to achieve rapid formation of a strand shell, to stabilise the still internally molten strand, and another is to achieve certain structural properties. According to the prior art, in such spray cooling, the impetus of the cooling liquid directed perpendicularly to the surface of the object to be cooled is markedly greater than the impetus in the case of a cooling liquid impinging in a flow parallel to the surface. This technique has the consequence of an often abrupt cooling of circular or elliptical regions of the surface of the metal article. To avoid these difficulties, it is proposed that the cooling medium or the cooling media is or are applied in spray jets parallel to the longitudinal axis of the metal article and that each spray jet departing from the nozzle opening according to the spray jet speed converted by the nozzle from thrust energy into specific kinetic energy, approaches the surface of the metal article in such a way that a relatively high spray jet speed has an associated relatively small angle of inclination and a relatively low spray jet speed has a relatively large angle of inclination with respect to the surface of the metal article.
